January 2007

I did something very fun yesterday (Saturday, Jan 13) – I was teaching nordic cross-country skiing to group of people up in the mountains.
And I had a blast! Hopefully all my students did too.

Two of my students had tried skiing before, the rest of the group was newbies but everybody did their best and we made it through the lesson only with a couple of bruises.
However, at the end of the lesson everybody was able to handle basic elements of classic and skating styles and I hope they got excited about skiing and want to continue this great winter sport also in the future.
Too bad that we do not have cross-country skiing trails near Seattle but it takes over an hour to drive to the nearest nordic spot.

But on the other hand spending a day in refreshing winter weather is a very good way to enjoy this time of the year, and worth driving a bit.

Here, near Seattle, we still have snow on the ground, and temperature keeps staying below freezing, so it is not going to melt away anytime soon. It is pretty cool to see some snow here, although traffic is driving me crazy.
Some people really should stay home if they are not able to handle the winter weather. Or then get traction tires or something. However, it is so frustrating to drive 5mph on the road where 20mph would be still safe enough.

This probably is better for downhill skiers but it is not impossible for cross-country skiers either to meet the tree:
Skiing combines outdoor fun with knocking down trees with your face. -Dave Barry

Enjoy the winter sport season!

Saturday night football was something unforgettable. Seahawks made their way to the NFL play-offs after beating Tampa Bay Buccaneers a week ago in FL. Dallas Cowboys visited Pacific Northwest last night.
The game was exciting and truly glued me in front of the TV. Seahawks made it – they beat Cowboys 21-20. Last 90 senconds of the game changed everything. Tony Romo’s bothched hold of a 19-yard field goal attempt ended Cowboys story this season.

Seahawks will be traveling next week, either to Chicago or New Orleans. Everything is up to Giants that are playing against Eagles this afternoon. So, Giants, keep going – New Orleans is a good place to play.

Kids are all alike – two or four legs, it does not matter. I have been working on a literature essay, and I really do love my 3″x5″ notecards.
I write everything down on those small note cards, organize and archive them. The other day I had a whole bunch of notes in a few well-organized piles – a storage box for these cards was on my shopping list.

However, one of these mornings I was taking a shower and Tassu’s acccess to the bathroom was denied.
Little dude got upset, kindly stole a few my notecards and when I got out of the shower, I found a dog sitting on the couch and looking like he has not done anything, ask from Sandy. And living room floor was covered with white, tiny pieces of my notes.
Could you believe that this little buddy would do anything illegal…?
Well, he knows how to look cute in pics.

Happy New Year to everyone – belated but better late than never :-)
The time has almost flown by although I have expected looong days, weeks and months since Chris is deploeyd.
Somehow I have managed to keep myself busy with work, all my hobbies and studies. Probably that is the reason why it feels like yesterday when he left – and hopefully it will be like tomorrow when he is coming back.

Chris and I did some New Year’s resolutions together, and my own resolution is to try to keep this blog updated a little bit more regularly…. we will see how it works out.
