April 2007

Another crazy week is behind… I have been busier than busy at work this week. Just PowerPoints beyond PowerPoints and running from one place to another. This week I truly have lived according to my calendar alarms.

Wednesday was a great day from the work out point of view. I did a real, tough work out at the gym – pull ups, push ups, squats, bench presses and abs – OF COURSE!! Legs, the whole upper body and even finger tips were sore and exhausted.
Since I am exercising so much, I figured it out that I need to take a better care of my poor muscles. So I was brave and booked a sports massage; had the appointment today.
I was a bit worried that it will hurt more than enough, and I will feel like beaten afterwards. But nope, I am amazed – it was the best thing I have done for quite some time!
Yeah, it feels that something has happened to my muscles but not an awkward feeling at any rate. I really did need this. And will go again next week.

And something that probably makes you smile:
“The bicycle is just as good company as most husbands and, when it gets old and shabby, a woman can dispose of it and get a new one without shocking the entire community.” Ann Strong, Minneapolis Tribune, 1895

Well, I wish to have both though.

I have always assumed that 5 miles equals to 8.04672 kilometers. However, this Sunday the running felt so very bad. Athlete’s best friend, lactic acid, was climbing higher and higher in my legs and beautiful, sunny morning, singing bird or even mind-numbing music in my iPod didn’t help at all.
After two miles I was ready to go home, curl up on my couch and watch TV. Naturally it was about the half-way of my run, so there was no an easy return.

I can only hope that Tom Sobal, World Snowshow Racing Champion was right when he said that “Pain is weakness leaving the body.”

This week has been kinda special one. So much has happened, also not so awesome and great things. Well, girl just needs to keep pushing…

Triathlon training wise the week is more than tough. I have had two serious gym workouts, all the pushups, pullups, squats and others are doing their job. Yep, I am exhausted and feel like I have done something else than just been jogging a bit around. Sometimes it is crazy – why do I do this? Why do I get my butt out off the bed at wee hours that I can hit the road, dive into the swim pool in the evening and between all this torture my poor muscles always a little bit more than yesterday.
It is probably all about strong will and will to try own limits as well as push myself a bit more every time.

Jacqueline Gareau puts it all together pretty good:
“The body does not want you to do this. As you run, it tells you to stop but the mind must be strong. You always go too far for your body. You must handle the pain with strategy…It is not age; it is not diet. It is the will to succeed.”
